There is a Chinese saying that goes "Three women make a play." From Thursday to Sunday, audiences in Beijing have the opportunity to put this saying to the test by attending a self-produced version of Richard Strauss' classic opera Der Rosenkavalier performed by three actresses at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

Featuring well-known musicians from both home and abroad Nike Presto Ultra Flyknit Italia , the opera will be performed by two groups of actresses on different nights. To better preserve the opera's original European flavor the first group consists of actresses from Germany, Austria and other Western countries, while for the second group the two leads are played by Chinese singers Liang Ning and Huang Ying.

A musical pioneer

Unlike the some widely performed operas such as Bizet's Carmen or Puccini's Turandot that are more or less familiar to the Chinese public, Der Rosenkavalier is well-known as a difficult performance due to the high skill required, high cost and number of important characters. Richard Strauss wrote this opera after his famed works Salome and Electra, which launched his reputation as a brave and wild modern composer. The morning after they spend a wonderful night, her cousin Baron Ochs breaks into her room forcing Octavian to disguise himself as a maid, who, humorously enough, Ochs finds very attractive. Ochs asks Marschallin to help him find someone who can act as his "rose knight" and bring a ceremonial silver rose to his young fiancée Sophie.

Octavian is selected to take on this duty Nike Presto Nere Italia , but upon presenting the rose to Sophie falls in love with her at first sight. Sophie also falls for Octavian and refuses to marry Ochs despite her family's wishes. So that he can be with Sophie, Octavian ends up dressing as a girl again to seduce Ochs and ruin his engagement.

The opera is the first German language opera produced by the NCPA. According to Deflo, since the play features characters of different nationalities and backgrounds in Vienna during the 18th century, as well as a character that must pretend to be a woman at certain points, what characters say and how they say it plays just as much an important role as the music. As such maintaining the original language of the opera is of the utmost importance. This of course makes the play difficult for its players as the Chinese actresses, who are used to singing in Italian Nike Presto Rosa Italia , must not only be able to sing in German, but must also portray certain regional accents.

Another eye-catching part of the new opera are the stage sets as the opera also makes good use of props to help accentuate certain moments.

Cross-dressing

"Fresh meat" might be the best way to describe the character Octavian.
